There are over 130 million native German speakers in the world and more than 15 million more people are currently learning German as a foreign language

The reasons why people learn German can be as varied as individuals are different:

Professional reasons, moving to a German-speaking country, German lessons at school and university or simply an interest in German language and culture

Some people need German for their everyday life in Germany, some for their professional environment and others for their scientific or academic research.

Within Europe, we distinguish between 6 different levels of proficiency (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages): from A1 (total beginner) to C2 (native speaker level.) Each level has its own challenges and hurdles to master.

Many learners of German also prepare for an exam in order to obtain an official certificate confirming their German language skills, for example the famous Goethe exam or the Telc exam, which are re- cognised as qualifications worldwide.

Learning German encompasses many different areas of competence: building a vocabulary, learning and applying grammatical structures, reading and understanding text, writing your own text, listening to and understanding spoken language and being able to express yourself and converse in German
